Anaesthesiology
OVERVIEW
Father Muller Medical College Hospital is one of the premier tertiary health care centre situated in the coastal city of Mangaluru. It boasts of a sovereign history dating back to as old as 1885 when it was started as a care centre for the poor, severely ill victims by Revered Father Augustus Muller. In due course of time, it expanded with more people joining hands and thus it became a hospital.
The birth of department of anaesthesiology in this hospital was in the year 1992 with Dr. T A Koshy becoming the first head of the department. The following have headed the department till date:
- Dr. T. A. Koshy 1992-1999
- Dr. Joseph Rodrigues 1999-2000
- Dr.Sudhir Hegde 2000-2009
- Dr.Mahabala T.H 2009-April 2013
- Dr.Radesh Hegde May 2013 till date
It subsequently grew up with many more anaesthesiologists joining the family. Post graduation course was started in the year 1992.
Till date, the department takes the credit of training students (Medics and paramedics) in the field of anaesthesiology, critical care, basic and advanced life support, and operation theatre technology.
The department believes in the concept of expanding the knowledge beyond the boundaries of the hospital and encourages students to take active role in research as the field is an ever expanding with the advent of new concepts, drugs and equipments.
