Biochemistry

OVERVIEW

The Biochemistry department of FMCI has a history of more than 30 years. At this stage the dept was involved in teaching the paramedical courses and providing round the clock lab services to patients of Father Muller Hospital. The Medical College was started in 1999. M.B.B.S Undergraduate courses of the department were started in the same year. Dr Ashalatha V. Rao was the head of the department during that time. The strong foundation for the department was laid down by her.

The Department has seen tremendous growth thereafter under the guidance of various H.O.D‘s Dr Raghavendra, Dr Krishnaswamy and Dr Ashok Kumar J., who all contributed for the academic growth of the department. Dr Malathi M is heading the department since October 2008.

The post graduate courses were introduced in the year 2008. The department is involved in teaching various undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph D students. It is recognized PhD centre by RGUHS to carry out Ph.D work. Dr Shivashankara A.R has been recognized as guide for Ph.D. The Staff of the department also guide various students coming from outside universities for their project work.

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory is a part of F.M.M.C.H.L and is accredited by NABL and NABH. Routine and special tests are done in the lab which works round the clock.

Routine Biochemical tests are done along with special tests which includes:

Immunoassays, Tumour Markers, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, PSA, AFP, CA-125, CEA, ß HCG, Ferritin, Insulin, IGE, Cortisol, Fertility Profile, Thyroid Profile, Dialysis Profile, Renal profile, Basic Profile, Hepatic profile, Cardiac Hypertension Profile, Serum Protein Electrophoresis, Inborn Screening.
