Father Muller Hospital was established in 1885 to heal and comfort the suffering patients in coastal city of Mangalore. In 2006, the Department of TB and Chest diseases was established to cater to the needs of respiratory patients especially tuberculosis and bronchial asthma. It was renamed as Respiratory Medicine in 2016 and then as department of Respiratory Medicine and Interventional Pulmonology in 2022 and is presently equipped with the most advanced Interventional set up for malignant and non-malignant disorders of the lungs and airways.
The department is engaged in Outpatient as well as Inpatient services along with a wide variety of basic respiratory procedures including spirometry, DLCO, Arterial Blood Gas analysis, Aerosol Therapy, Video bronchoscopy as well as advanced interventions including Medical thoracoscopy, Endobronchial ultrasound (both convex probe and radial probe), Electrocautery, cryotherapy,Allergy Testing, Spigot Placement, Rigid bronchoscopy and foreign body retrieval.
