Physiotherapy

OVERVIEW

The Department of Physiotherapy at Father Muller Medical College offers quality education and rehabilitation services in the field of physiotherapy. The department consists of experienced faculty who specialize in orthopaedics and sports, neurological and psychosomatic disorders, cardio respiratory, pediatrics and women's health as well as community based rehabilitation. Treatment services are provided both as in patient and outpatient departments.

Academics

Academic facilities comprises of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. At undergraduate level, students are assigned to observe clinical practice periodically along with class based teaching. Case based learning and evidence based practice is prioritized among students right from the undergraduate level. The college also offers a Masters program in various units of physiotherapy (cardio respiratory, pediatrics, neurological, orthopaedics and sports and community based rehabilitation). MPT students are encouraged to give equal importance to application and research along with self directed learning.

Extension Programs

Along with teaching and clinical practice, emphasis is also given to true rehabilitate community based disabled and geriatric individuals. Currently, the community based rehabilitation unit is undertaking various outreach programs at:

• Bethany convent for the aged, Jeppu
• Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Urva
• St. Mary’s Special School, Kinnigoli

Extra curricular

• We regularly conduct programs to enable the disabled and worthy community dwellers.
• Students are encouraged to actively participate in cultural and sports activities held at inter and intra college levels.
