YRC trains to render selfless service to their society. In a bid to prepare communities for emergencies and to nurture humanitarianism in the youth, the Youth Red Cross unit of Father Muller College of Nursing undertakes umpteen tasks.
Youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Red Cross youth programme. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities not only as workers and also as beneficiaries, but as partners in management.
The Youth Red Cross unit of our college imbibes service mindedness among students and trains them to disseminate and practice the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross Society, HUMANITY, IMPARTIALITY, NEUTRALITY, INDEPENDENCE, VOLUNTARY SERVICE, UNITY and UNIVERSALITY.
The Youth Red Cross Unit of Father Muller College of Nursing observed World Organ Donation Day 2022 by organizing a Seminar on Organ Donation on 09 August 2022. Dr. Manjunath, Professor & HOD Dept of Nephrology Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore was the resource person for the seminar. In his seminar, Dr. Manjunath focused on unlearning common misconceptions related to organ donation. It also focused on how we can contribute to the noble cause of organ donation. Dr. Devina E Rodrigues Vice Principal & Chairperson of the Research Innovation and extension committee, FMCON presented a certificate of appreciation to the resource person; Ms. Priya Sweety Pereira, Assistant Professor & Research innovation and extension committee member, FMCON compared the program. A total of 79 staff and students were the beneficiaries for the same. On this occasion students and faculty of FMCON filled “ORGANS AND TISSUES DONOR PLEDGING FORM” issued by the INDIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY, Dakshina Kannada Branch.
The Youth Red Cross Cell of Father Muller College of Nursing organized an Awareness programme on “Disaster Management & First Aid” for students (110 students from B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses) of St. Ann’s College of Education, Mangaluru on 17.06.2019 at 2.15pm. Mrs. Lavina Rodrigues, Lecturer / Member -Youth Red Cross cell, Father Muller College of Nursing was the resource person and she delivered talk on types of disasters, consequences of disasters, emergency disaster management and first aid for burns, bleeding, fracture, shock, drowning, etc. A video assisted demonstration on CPR was done to the audience. The session was concluded with brief description of Role of Indian Red Cross society in disaster management and First aid.
The Youth Red Cross Unit of Father Muller College of Nursing Conducted an Essay competition for the students of FMCON to spread the Red Cross Movement in observance of World Red Cross Day 2019. The Essay competition was based on the theme what do you love about Red Cross? The World Red Cross Day celebration was organised by Indian Red Cross Society, DK Branch in association with A J Shetty Medical College, Mangaluru to commemorate the World Red Cross Day on 8th May 2019 at 10.30 am. 12 students and 2 faculties (Mrs Lavina Rodrigues and Mrs Deepika N C) of FMCON were attended the World Red Cross Day function at A J Shetty Medical College, Mangaluru. Mrs Christy Saju, II B S C Nursing student secured consolation prize.
Ms Beulah T P and Ms Jasmine James, Youth Red Cross Members, IIIrd BSc Nursing students, Father Muller College of Nursing have Secured 2 nd Prize and 3 rd Prize respectively, in the Inter Collegiate Seminar Competition on the theme “Be there for someone else-Give Blood, Share Life “on Friday 15 th June 2018, from 8.45 am to 10.30 am in the Silver Jubilee Hall, Father Muller Medical College..

A radio programme on “World No Tobacco Day” will be broadcasted on 27 th May 2018 at 09.16 AM in English and 30 th May 2018 at 06.15 pm in Konkani, in All India Radio, Akashavani, Mangaluru(100.3 MHz).This programme is organized by the Youth Red Cross Cell, Father Muller College of Nursing in collaboration with Akashavani, Mangaluru. Mr Rajeev Mathew, Assistant Professor, Dept.of Psychiatric Nursing and MS Roopa Maria Dsouza &Ms Zeena Demitra Dsouza, III rd. BSc Nursing Students, were the resource persons for the English and Konkani Radio Programme on World No Tobacco Day. This programme was recorded on 14 th May 2018.
The Youth Red Cross Cell of Father Muller College of Nursing organized a “Jungle and Real life Survival - Hands on Skill Training Program” for Red Cross Members on 14 th April 2018,from 7.30am to 5pm in Kinnigoli, Mangaluru in association with Disaster Management, Sub-committee, Indian Red Cross Society, DK. The Resource Persons were Mr Santhosh Peter Dsouza (B.A. (L) LL.B, Advocate and Legal Consultant and District Convenor of Youth Red Cross Cell D.K) and Mr Nithin, Assistant Trainer for Disaster Management Training Program. The Jungle and Real Life Survival program is one such program which prepares the individual to withstand not only the rigours of the jungle but also to combat man made calamities and natural disasters. The program was coordinated by Mr Rajeev Mathew-in charge, Youth Red Cross Unit, Father Muller college of Nursing.
The Youth Red Cross Unit of Father Muller College of Nursing organized a talk at V4 Channel in observance of World Water Day 2018. The talk was based on this year theme “Nature for Water”, explores nature-based solutions (NBS) to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
The program was taped on 17 th March 2018 at 3:30pm and which will be telecasted on Friday 23 rd March 2018 at 9pm and also on Saturday 24 th March 2018 at 2pm.The talk was given by Mrs Lavina Rodrigues and Mrs Deepika N C, members of Youth Red Cross Unit, Father Muller College of Nursing.
The Youth Red Cross Wing of Father Muller College of Nursing organized an Eye Donation Awareness Programme on 21.07.2017 at 09.00am in the Rajath Bhavan. The objective of eye donation awareness programme is to create mass awareness and to bridge the gap between demand and supply of cornea.
Sri M K Krishna , who is state convener ,eye donation subcommittee of Indian Red Cross Society ,Karnataka State branch and who is also chairman of Eye bank Association of India (South Zone) Conducted the awareness Programme on Eye Donation and Eye Banking ,which is helpful to Educate, Eliminate and Eradicate Avoidable and Preventable Blindness in particular Corneal Blindness. There were 350 participants who benefited from the program.

The main focus was on Disaster management plan through which communities reduces vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters, since disaster management does not avert or eliminate the threats; instead, it focuses on creating plans to decrease the effect of disasters. The program was coordinated by Mr Rajeev Mathew-in charge, Youth Red Cross Unit, Father Muller college of Nursing.

World Red Cross Day is used to provide the people who suffer from any Food Shortage, Natural Calamities, War as well as Diseases of the Epidemic.
World Red Cross Day is used to celebrate to make the people to get relief from the Natural Calamities and other disaster activities in any Country. World Cross Day makes the people to save their life by providing them every help when they require for saving their life in many bad conditions. So World Cross Day is essential for the people to get proper safeguard from the entire disastrous activities takes place in the World.

The youth Red Cross cell of Father Muller College of Nursing was inaugurated on 05/11/2015 at 2.30pm in the Rajath bhavan Father Muller College of Nursing. The Mission of Youth Red Cross Cell is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of Humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized and even prevented and thus contribute to creating more congenial climate for peace
